Illegal Civilization is a streetwear brand with an emphasis on youth and skateboarding. They’ve partnered with Fader magazine to produce a short film, simply titled “Short Film.” What begins as a run-of-the-mill skater video (shaky handheld cam and all), eventually takes a strange turn and warps into a surreal horror story that’s sort of reminiscent of 2015’s It Follows. The bright outfits contrast with the film’s increasingly eerie tone, making the vibes suspenseful and genuinely intriguing. Part exuberant lookbook in moving picture form, and part bold blend of genres, this is a creatively layered hybrid in the utmost sense.
