Women Take the Spotlight at the 45th Telluride Film Festival

As more film festivals take place around the world, women are seeing their work being praised at the highest levels.

This past week was the 45th Telluride Film Festival. The small town of in Colorado becomes immersed in films from all around the world from some of the best filmmakers in the industry. The festival is also a great place to catch possible Oscar contenders make their debut.

This year, women owned the festival, showcases some of the best talent, on and off screen. The Favourite, staring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone, is almost an entire female ensemble and takes place during the later reign of Queen Anne of England. Another female ensemble appears in Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma. The Destroyer, staring Nicole Kidman and directed by Karyn Kusama, tells the story of a female detective reconnecting with people from a past undercover case.

The festival also showcased the Netflix’s film, Reversing Roe, about the past, and ongoing, abortion debate in the United States. The documentary will hit Netflix soon.
