5. The Mindy Project

The Mindy Project is a show created by and starring Mindy Kaling, comedian and writer. It originally aired on Fox, but they canceled it after Season 3, and then came Hulu to the rescue, where it now lives and you can watch. Mindy is unapologetically funny, sex and body positive, obsessed with rom-coms, does her own thing and does not care about what stands in her way. If you were a successful obstetrician/gynecologist looking for love, perhaps you would too. She’s not perfect (and neither is the show), but she (and the show) tries, and that’s what matters. The supporting cast of mostly co-workers are fun and quirky, and together they make a close family-like group that plays together and works together. The show takes place in New York City and is not shy of drama and meddling in each other’s lives. I like this series because we need more shows with diverse leads and I enjoy an easy-going, easy to watch program that makes me laugh and even think sometimes.
