New virtual production company for major studio.
In early April, 20th Century Fox Film acquired virtual production company Technoprops (also a developer of facial capture tool). Virtual production is the practice of filming using virtual sets and bluescreen stages. This type of production and visual effects has been fast developing, and you may have seen it in movies such as The Jungle Book and Avatar.
Technoprops will be used as a VFX lab for Fox, with a virtual production facility and headquarters expected to open in downtown L.A. Technoprops founder Glenn Derry worked on the first Avatar movie, stunning audiences with the beautiful visual effects of a new world. Seems like we can expect another visually exceptional movie for the sequel, and possibly endless, fantastically orchestrated movies made with virtual production in Fox’s future.
