On My Block is a vibrant and street-smart dramedy that revolves around a tight-knit group of four spirited high schoolers as they navigate growing up in South Central LA.
Laughs. Turmoil. Heart.
You might have to dig deep to find this treasure of a series because it doesn’t usually show up in the ‘Featured’ or ‘Popular’ categories, but Netflix’s “On My Block” is must-see TV.
It’s a vibrant and street-smart dramedy that revolves around a tight-knit group of four spirited high schoolers as they navigate teenage escapades and the all-too-serious perils of growing up in South Central Los Angeles. The show expertly blends laugh-out-loud humor with jaw-dropping gravitas, exploring everything from party mishaps and follies with crushes — to local gang rivalries and stray bullets hitting close to home.
Brutally honest at times, and playfully whimsical at others, each 30-minute episode is a multi-cultural mosaic that is tagged with enough emotion, conflicts, awkward moments, and twists to make you wipe the sweat from your forehead by the time the credits roll.
Monse, Cesar, Jamal, and Ruby are all wonderfully drawn characters that you will grow deeply attached to, and “On My Block” is a storytelling gem that will take your brain and your heart through the chaotic back alleys of growing up.
Seasons 1 & 2 of “On My Block” are currently streaming on Netflix
