"The film is partly inspired by my family history."

Ash Mayfair is a Vietnamese director and writer. She has also worked as a sound mixer and boom operator on several films. She received her MFA in film at the NYU Tish School of the Arts. Mayfair has directed eight short films, many of which have screen at various film festivals.

Mayfair will make her feature film debut with The Third Wife. During the 1800s in Vietnam, fourteen-year-old May is preparing to become the third wife of a wealthy landowner. She comes to discover hidden desires that will make her choose between security and freedom.

In 2014, Mayfair’s screenplay for The Third Wife won the Spike Lee Production Fund. The film has already been screened at several international film festivals, where it has been nominated, and won, many awards.

“I’m really happy to be able to share this film with audiences around the world, especially in Mostra in South America, where there’s a lot of discussion about women’s rights still today. And even though the film is set in the nineteenth century, a lot of the situations that happen to the characters are very relevant [today].”

The Third Wife will be released May 15th.
