Someone give this kid a job!

Gwenn Germain’s senior animation class project at Creapole, a French art school, has gone viral in Japan. The two minute and forty second clip took a grueling five months to make, but at least Germain’s effort has won him not only an A+ on the project but also fame.

The clip is titled “Celles et Ceux des Cimes et Cieux,” which translates into “Girls and Guys from Summits and Skies.” The short animated is heavily influenced by Hayao Miyazaki’s style and art. There are numerous references to Miyazaki’s work, which include the same fantasy creature seen in Spirited Away, as well as an appearance of an animated Hayao Miyazaki. Additionally, the score used for the clip was originally from the film Hana-bi, and was composed by Joe Hisaishi who has done work for Miyazaki on Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke.

The video was uploaded on to Vimeo a week ago. Germain personally responds to comments, if that gives anyone an incentive to leave one for him!
